"HARMONIOUS HOLIDAYS" with DUCHESS

Ring in the holiday season with Duchess, a sparkling three-part vocal harmony girl group.  From traditional favorites (“Silver Bells,” “ What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve”) to playful holiday novelties (“Santa Baby,” “ Mele Kalikimaka”), these gals will set hearts aglow and toes a-tapping!

Sure-footed swing, sweet-toned harmony and ever-insouciant charm are embodied in the new jazz vocal trio Duchess, featuring notable New York singers Amy Cervini, Hilary Gardner and Melissa Stylianou.  Blending the classic and the contemporary DUCHESS has quickly earned a reputation for beautiful singing and big fun at the group’s shows of “girl-on-girl harmony,” as the three so saucily put it. The New York-based threesome made its debut on record with the eponymous Duchess, released by Anzic Records in February 2015. The album channels the 1930s inspiration of the virtuosic Boswell Sisters into a wonderfully entertaining package.

“Three fine singers...join together in swinging harmony to whip up music that traffics in delight…this fresh-voiced triumvirate plays it straight from the heart, leaving any trace of camp or post-modern irony at the door.”
— The New Yorker

“DUCHESS…is a serious musical force, but it makes some seriously friendly music.”
— Dan Bilawsky, All About Jazz

AMY LYNN & THE HONEY MEN"A WOMAN LEFT LONELY"   THE MUSIC OF JANIS JOPLIN

15894973_10154240928447654_160688176107086335_n.jpg

In a complex, ever-changing world, singer Amy Lynn finds herself asking: what would Janis do? A celebration of the legendary performer’s indomitable spirit, A Woman Left Lonely sees Amy and her horn-heavy band the Honey Men tearing into Janis Joplin’s ferocious songs while re-contextualizing them for 2017. Over the course of the show, Amy considers Janis’s legacy as a sexually liberated, emotionally vulnerable woman in today’s context, when such a person is only slightly less terrifying to the world than she would have been in the late 1960s.
Songs include horn-powered arrangements of “Piece of My Heart,” “Little Girl Blue,” “A Woman Left Lonely,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” and more.

Amy Lynn and the Honey Men return to the MAC to sing Janis Joplin’s greatest hits. Join them as they capture her unique sound and energy for an unforgettable evening celebrating this rock and roll legend. Amy Lynn & The Honey Men are a group that blows glitter all over the traditional memphis-motown soul/rock style. At the controls is Amy Lynn, a vocal powerhouse whose unique flair of quirky, down-to-earth humor countervails against the serious musicianship of The Honey Men’s team of bari sax, tenor sax, trumpet, keys, bass, and drums. Both together and apart, members of The Honey Men draw on a range of experience playing with acts such as Roberta Flack, Spoon, Bette Midler, Beth Hart, St. Vincent, The National, Yo La Tengo, Duffy, Antibalas, and the Radio City Orchestra.
